What If The Human Brain Would Work Like The Dolphin’s Brain

Dolphins have got the ability to switch off half of their brain, according to marine researchers. This way they stay awake for days, so they are able to swim to the surface and breathe and are constantly aware of their surroundings.

Unlike land mammals, dolphins sleep with only part of their brains at any time, past research has suggested. Half of their brains rest, while the other half remains “awake,” and dolphins regularly switch which side is active.

“After being awake for many hours or days, humans and other animals are forced to stop all activity and sleep,” said researcher Brian Branstetter, a marine biologist at the National Marine Mammal Foundation in San Diego. “Dolphins do not have this restriction, and if they did, they would probably drown or become easy prey.”

Dolphins are amazing. Dr. Jill Pulled out a real brain. LOL! I love the way she describes the left and right hemisphere’s. I disagree with Joseph on boarding romanticisim. She is just describing here thoughts and feelings at the time of the stroke and after. I am amazed she was able to still analyze what was happening to her.

Dr. Ellen thanks for posting such a wonder video.. I love it. I also agree with her. The dolphins have surpassed us in the evolution of the brain if they can just switch on switch off at will.

She is a very lucky woman with a fascinating insight into her predicament.

Although I also feel that she is almost bordering on romanticising stroke.
